ONE FELL SWOOP - Live At The Draft House 2/7 or 2/14/1992

It's a mystery when this show was recorded. It's listed on the cassette cover as the 7th ,but on another mix it's listed as the 14th. I put up the flyers from both shows ,one of which was not recorded ,at least I could not locate it in the vault.Black Nerd only played with us once ,and this was not the time ,despite the flyer. Pillows ,was a Michael Griffin (rip) noise project ,and I'm not sure about the Nomadz ,but I do know Boneshaker's original name was The North Cape Nomadz ,then TRV , for Tony,Ron,Vance ,the boys in the band. This is not your typical OFS live tape. It's pretty much Chipmonk's show ,as ,unbeknownst to either Joel or I ,Chipmonk had placed the microphone we were recording the show with ,right in front of his amp. It's just like him to pull some shit like that ,and after only a few more shows together (posted here soon!) the band was over. Joel said this about the tape : "Of sub-bootleg quality, actually it barely qualifies as a bootleg". The vocals ,my guitar ,and the drums ,are virtually washed out by Chipmonk's wall of jealous noise. There are some fine moments here ,including an improv instro (Magic Bowel Movement -Symphony In E Minus) , a bunch of cover songs,a lengthy and funny version of "Teach Wants Quiet" ,and a spoken word ending ,"The Ant-ectdote" ,a story of ants that is a parable of our times (the 90's). The audience was small but receptive. If you love the Chipmonk ,this is the tape for you ,wah-wah pedal, feedback ,and all. Not the most even recording ,and probably one of the worst sounding live recordings ,we ever did. Thanks ,Chipmonk!

MISFITS - Eyes To Despise

A rare double-album boot! Compiled from several other boots, this has demos, live shows ,and "Return Of The Fly" ,which was unreleased at the time(1990).The track list is mostly right ,it lists 49 tracks ,when there are actually 53 cuts! I fixed it on the mp3's ,like you don't already know these songs! Doyle signed it on the bottom of the eyeball to the left (see close-up), and it's on Johnson Records of NY. Not a bad comp. I've heard much worse. There are a couple of skips and some surface noise ,but, alas, it was pressed on inferior vinyl. This is only my second or third time playing it in 20 years. I left in every second of Doyle tuning up between nearly every song ,cuz' that's the way their shows were ,and I'm going for the full effect! Halloween is nigh ,and I will be posting more related stuff ,another Misfits covers comp. and a Halloween collection akin to last year's ,"Music To Eat Brains To" ,compilation!

DICK DALE LIVE! AT THE PYRAMIDS,FT. MYERS,FLORIDA ,2/25/1996

The flyer above is from a show,at a different venue, about a week after I recorded this.Joel and Billy were also there. There is a brief snippet of the opening band(unfotunately, not the Gotohells!),whose name escapes me,but they had girls in the band, and they sucked! We do make a few comments at the top of the recording! the first track of Dick, has a glitch about halfway thru, but after that it's smooth sailing (or ,surfing ,as the case may be!).A funny anecdote about this show: a girl ,standing just in front of us,obviously drunk, was swaying and dancing to Dick and co.,and she peed herself,it leaked on the floor, and she slipped in the pee,and cracked her head! The highlight of the show, and Dick wasn't bad either! If anyone happens to know the track list,if you would kindly put them in the comments box below, for those that need such things!

BIRTHDAY PARTY - Rare,Live,& Demos

There are 3 rare recordings included here.First, "The Black Mass Has Started",which is what Nick Cave says at the beginning of this live recording, right after he asks,"Why are there only 12 of you?",to which an audience member replies,"But we'll make the noise of a thousand people!".Recorded by my old friend,Leo Johnson, when he traveled to London. He said it was a small, almost, cabaret, with cocktail tables in front of the stage, from where he recorded this masterpiece.May 26,1982 ,London,
Hammersmith,Clarendon Ballroom. Most of Junkyard is covered, with a few from Prayers On Fire. And a fine cover of The Loved Ones ,"Sad Dark Eyes".I don't believe either of these live shows have ever been released,in any form. The other live show(as well as the demos) ,"Ready As We'll Ever Be"(something said by a band member right before starting "Rowland Around In That Stuff") is from I believe a boot tape stand that Leo also went to in London,at a flea market,or something.Recorded June 12,1981 ,London,West Hampstead ,Moonlight Club ,mostly Prayers On Fire and earlier, and a few of Junkyard's songs.A few glitches in the tape, but great sound.Missing the last 3 songs from the show."God Damned Demos" follows most of the same tracks as The Peel Sessions ,but 2 songs at the end are different. It's a boot, whattya want for free? And you better be leavin' a happy birthday wish for Sluggisha,in the post below this,if you decide you want to hear this rarity! thanks -G O D

THE ORIGINAL GENERATION X

A rather muddy sounding demos record, sounds as if it was mastered from an old cassette tape that was on someone's floor ,after a million rowdy parties, and a million spilled pints.Still an important document of early UK punk.Put out by McDonald Brothers Corpration ,they try to make their logo look like the BBC.Released in 1987 on Jock Records out of England.Rare, and punk rock!

PUSSY GALORE -Seattle 7"

MISFITS- In The Pit - Lodi,NJ - 9/81

This is a practice tape, made in their practice space, back home in Lodi. They run thru 6 songs,(2 of them 4 times each),in rehearsal for a show.Lots of commentary and talking between cuts. You can tell which songs they know good, and which ones need work. A rare glimpse of a band in motion. Wish they really made Legos like these!

MISFITS-Led Zep Sound Check-1997

This is from a soundcheck, before a show, where they do 2 Led Zeppelin songs,"Earth Angel",(the 50's doo-wop song by the Penguins),and a rare Misfits cut,"In The Doorway",all with Michale Graves on vocals.Pretty rare, and weird hearing these guys do Zeppelin!Cool for what it is. Note the autographs i got from the guys, back in 96,when they played the Pyramids in Ft.Myers,FL.

MISFITS-Live at Finder's Lounge,Hallandale,FL - 10/19/82

28 years ago,on this day(19th),the Misfits performed a live gig, that has all the frailties and foibles, usually found in Danzig-era shows.Doyle's guitar is out of tune ,more often than not, lots of tuning up,Glen bitching, someone messing with the sound board, folks unplugging equipment, you know the drill. When they do build up a head of steam,it's harcore style ,all the way,as they tear thru 22 of their hits! Not the worst boot i've heard, but, not the best either.

MISFITS - vampira

It's October, and all thru the month I will be sprinkling the blog with Halloween related music.Lets start off with this compilation of tracks from 4 different bootlegs from the Misfits.Spanning from 1979 to 1983, there are live songs from NJ,NY,and MI,plus some demos from Ambionic Studios.I have lots more Misfits boots for ya,too! On Baby Face Records. How about that cheezy logo, and skull, wtf is that??!!?I just saw a recent picture of Danzig, with a Danzig t-shirt on,coming out of the grocery store with a bag of cat litter! I hope he's making bombs with it!

HUSKER DU-early boot demos

This is not the real cover.that's from another bootleg 7",like this which includes "Drug Party",as well as, "Do You Remember?".Pretty raw sound,me likes it!Thanks to Billy Drake,it's from his collection.

DANZIG-777-live at cbgb's

yep,1 of 750 makes it rare.the 2 songs are,"777"(of course)and another version of"when death had no name".nice companion to the subpop 666 single i posted earlier, but the sound is not so good.listen when danzig says the song title 777,you can hear the kid who recorded it,parrot him and say,"777",and then chuckles like butthead.the recording is obviously from a hand -held,in the audience, and sounds compressed.could'nt really get much volume out of it.still ,another bootleg collectible!
