Dave was a Ft.Myers,Florida musician,who moved on to Georgia and abroad,doing studio time with Sean "Puffy"Coombs(before he was anyone),Jad Fair,and lots of others.He was also in many bands such as the Go-Devils,Insane Jane,even a guest spot with Cat Machine.He invented the "Queerbait",a stringed electric noisemakin'lap steel contraption.This is a selection of early solo material,styles vary,experimental,cover of the Beatles,"Good Day Sunshine",I swear I have him doing"Theme Song from The Jefferson's",somewhere,(I may be dreaming),songs that sound like out-takes of Residents and Negativland,this is very cool nonetheless,a musicians musician,thinking music for those who can't think,this will distract your way of life!

ian was the son of a friend.hanged out one day in the studio,i produced and engineered,ian did the rest,all the lyrics are his as well as the music.the gabbas join him on one song,and there are a few instumentals.veers somwhere between caroliner rainbow,sun city girls and old skull.pretty good for a little kid,plus he did the artwork you see above.i gotta get my kids on the ball,and have them make a new tape.this is cool,the last track has language a 7 yr. old should'nt be using,but who was i to stop him?huh?if you see diane ,say hi!G O D.

THE PHANTOM THIRD-tp3

this is a solo release from tony rizzo,practically the vice president of sluggisha,with dues paid in many ft.myers bands dating back before the advent of the sluggisha label and into the new wave of artists,and instruments dutifully played.this project is now known as,'the mordrakes',and has a myspace page,but tony says he may revert back to this original moniker.this is tony in a pensive and pop mood,more relaxed and mellower than anything else he's done.there is a coupla times here he covers himself,from myopia songs to a boneshaker/stonehenge mouth number,and does it all alone,with no guest spots,except snuffleupagus on the final track.all art in zip and above by tony.next up: another solo turn by tony as"crucial fiction".stay tuned for that,in the meantime ,grab this and leave tony a comment,thanks! an inconspicuous, shy,mysterious man,can be heard here.member of many bands,including some pretty high profile alternative bands(which we can't mention here,sorry),in tons of sluggisha bands,he of the crazy lyrics and insane vocal stylations,mad guitar skills,and a love of the beatles and the beach boys that goes beyond the norm.one of the finest guitarists i've personally known,and a great friend and bandmate.this is some of his solo experimentations,and songs with these bands,:the headlaunchers,gutbucket,black nerd,insect t-shirts,apocalyptic centurions(from their only non-live recording,the original cat machine house tapes),hackensack killers,boogie woogie brainwash,one fell swoop.cat machine,and the candy butchers.covers of dinosaur jr.,dick dale,sonic youth,the shaggs,and sly and the family stone.lots of record and tape manipulations to start off this journey,and lots of overblown guitar!one of the best musicians with one of the greatest musical knowledges,to ever have existed.don't miss this,some good stuff that should not be missed,check this blog for more of chipmunk's work,thanks,G O D. p.s. pic is of his grade school girlfriend,can't put his pic for fear of exposure.

VANCE BURDGE-early solos

Vance is one of my best buds.We were in tons of projects together,but I'm not on this at all.But Nathan Adams,Eric'Trig'Triglet,and Nick Dunphee,do help out a little.About 50/50 on originals vs. covers.Some of the covers are from David Bowie,Love and Rockets,Christian Death,Black Sabbath,the Beatles,Bauhaus,the Go-Go's,and Vanilla Ice.You can kinda tell why we called him 'The Count',due to his affinity for goth.The Go-Go's ,Vanilla Ice,and Bauhaus numbers are parodies about local luminaries such as Shawn,Splashman,and Guy Gentry.There's also a hilarious imitation of Nick Dunphee on, 'Nick the What?'He leads off with the only country song I think he ever recorded,and goes into his goth styled tunes,some real trippin'stuff,and all those ace covers.Check his name on this blog ,He's probably in half the bands featured here!A fantastic all around friend,musician,singer,and the best engineer /soundman we had.A very accomplished artist. CHUCK CONNELL-some of the best of CHUCK!

this was a labor of love for my good pal,and sluggisha all-star,chuck.i've never met a nicer guy in my life,as well as the bassmaster extrordinaire.many bands chuck was involved in are here,as well as solo turns,and some brand new tracks minted for this comp.lots of guests help chuck out also.vance,brophy,me,and peegsley(his lil bro,chris)are featured and the band list is as follows:absolut,cat machine,nitro kick,cheesy time warps,panther piss,phone sluts,on the lamb,cool papa rider,fat,dumb,and happy,and chuck's latest solo effort,gold on fire,which is totally professional sounding.i wish i had some big monster blunt to lay on you,as well as other bands with chuck,but this is what i got.there is much more of most of the bands on this comp as well as more chuck.hopefully chuck will get some more stuff together for a new comp of newer material,we are waiting chuck! 25 tracks that go on for 2 hours.man chuck plays long songs.there are some instrumentals,of all styles,tho' chuck really sticks to funk.he was like the flea of ft. myers,but also was in thrash metal bands,as well as alternative music bands,and some rather trippin'solo stuff.this is a good introduction to the guy we all know as chuck!if you're lucky ,you may one day meet him.till then ,study this profile!G O D.p.s.leave chuck some comments on his great work!thanks!

take some myopia,add a little kike,stir in some centrifuge,you got you some BONESHAKER!.tony ,ron bohn,and vance,are psychin- out on this awesome release.several instrumentals litter up the joint a bit,but rock none the less.great covers of the birthday party and dead or alive,as well as a stonehenge mouth number.tony is in top form lyrically,vocally,and instrumentally.vance is the steady anchor as always,and ron,while not in many sluggisha bands,holds his own here.there may be more tracks missing,as with kike and centrifuge,i need vance to get in touch with me,cuz he may have the lost sluggisha archives treasure chest(we all hope!)sometimes obtuse,other times ,shades of pop,this is a band to be reckoned with.art by tony and hopefully he'll leave some more notes about boneshaker in the comments!G O D.

some of the stupidest stuff ever commited to tape,by one of the most tardcore bands of all time,SACKTAP.collects pieces from 1978-2009,of all sorts.kinda retaining or always returning to a jazz/lounge based sound,but lots of other styles abound such as,noisy industrial,acoustic,lots of keyboardy numbers,poetry,remakes of classic 80's t.v. ads,long-winded instrumentals,audio verite,a spoof of an old time radio show in a few episodes,the most retarded motorhead cover ever,hip-hop rap,just about anything you could think of.experiments gone wrong is the key mode of operation here.if you are into the worst music you can find,annoying people with said music,or if you enjoy any tardcore,you will like this.makes sockeye and their gang look like led zeppelin in comparison.don't listen to any other band called,SACKTAP.they're all fakes,also has nothing to do with spinal tap,even though they rule!an ongoing project that will likely end when i die.there is a full cannon of this band in the wings,just waiting to unload on the stupid world we live in,and when it does,whooo boy!,be prepared for the stupidity,that of the like which you have never seen.art by eric,age 8.

our local ft.myers minutemen cover band,but they were so much more.a band of brothers and a friend,play minutemen covers so realistic,you'll swear you are hearing the genuine article.seth,luke,mark,and brett,have a knack for reproducing the hits of d.boon and co.as well as minor threat ,home,dinosaur jr.,steely dan(via the minutemen)and other bands they love. i wish i had a flyer for this show,but alas,no luck.upon first hearing them,i was amazed that at their young age they were so proficient,cruising along like a well oiled piece of machinery.you too will stand gape-mouthed at the sounds you will hear,and may even feel disbelief that this is not the minutemen.if anyone knows what track 7 is let me know in comments,thanks .5/25/96 at the draft house.i am still floored everytime i hear the ford boys,as will you be when you click here:

MAGIC NOSE GOBLINS 1

we loved ren and stimpy,so we formed 2 bands called,"magic nose goblins",and distinguish them by calling them 1 or 2.

both are duos,this one is me and joel,in his room,at gramps's(cat machine house).we were supposed to be recording the 4th one fell swoop tape,but the night before chipmunk stole his mom's car,and wrecked it,all highed up. we went downtown,the next morning,where he worked for his mom,and he said,"my life is over",which of course wasn't true.so me and joel went back home and recorded this semi tribute to our fallen bandmate.the last track is funny as we give him a stern talking to.good lyrics,rockin' music,joel sings a few,i sing the rest,and it all turns out like crap,with a cherry on top!forget about the other bands using this name,we were the originals back in 1991.click here for the real magic nose goblins 1:http://www.mediafire.com/file/h4m1ynwkmzf/magic nose goblins 1.zip

MOOM PITCHERS

i know,another weird name,and it comes with a story.we were listening to a mrs. miller album and in the liner notes it had a segment where they talked about her t.v. appearances,and some questions she was asked,one of which was,"what does she like to do with her spare time?",to which she replied she,"liked moom pitchers",which we deciphered as,"moving pictures"ie:the movies.just a strange way to say things,i guess.anyway the name stuck for 4 sessions,all of which is here.there is some 4-track tomfoolery,more live stuff than anything,and the band is mostly me,joel,and mike,tho' dug appears on the last 6 songs.aunt christy sings on "christine's tune".hard to pin down an exact sound except to say,"space vixens",the title of a song,and the original moniker,(for a few days),which kinda describes the sound,but not as well as you would like.still cool.check out a song about tony,"homily boy".i think you may agree ,moom pitchers is quite possibly the most debonair band to have existed in their time(1/19/96-2/4/96),and as you can see the post below is the band that followed up on this band about a week later.pretty comparable to "the new space rock extravaganzas",a nice companion piece,with the same members,we used to change band names like our socks,we were so fickle.sounds like moom pitchers,for sure,tubular dudes!

FLESH OF BARNEY-flasher barney

steve borden named this band,and a song ,"steve boredom" on here is about him.we worked in a bakery,a cake topper of barney in a raincoat made steve say,"flasher barney",which i heard as "flesh of barney",and thought of the body of christ.me vance and billy ,played on this,the concept:each of us could not hear what the other was playing or singing.i think the first song title,"blizzum scasm",totally describes the sound.cool,doesn't even sound anything like rush or black oak arkansas,as you would think.listen now:

BURDGE DRAKEWOOD ORCHESTRA- first movements

EPSTEIN- LIVE!-at trig's birthday party at gare's house,3/20/93

This was supposed to be "Whoreshack" live but the other 2 members didn't show up so I played guitar and had 4 drummers,all at once,who included,:Brophy,Trig,Sean,and Tony.I know it sometimes sounds as if there's 2 guitars,but it's all me with effects and delays.Broke into the middle of a mellow acid hippie party to wake them up with the reality of this music.I'm sure they were trippin' balls and this probably took them over the edge.At least 30 hippies were in attendance,and I fled after the last note.Whoreshack was me ,Billy,and Mike, same style, instrumentals mostly,and sometimes Vance on bass.This is a freak-out session,and the sound quality is of the "you are there"variety,I think you will like!Click here:

SALEM CURBING

this is the original 1st tape from this innovative artist.if you check out this blog you'll also find the second,even more futuristic,album,which i prefer,as this is somewhat primitive in recording techniques,but still will hold your interest.has a great jeopardy parody,i voice all 3 contestants,and alex trebek,stars as himself.also covers of louie,louie,the heartbreakers,a coupla sex pistols numbers(all the cover songs are played on a discarded toy phone i found in the trash,when you push the buttons it makes different tones!)almost an american version of hanatarash!some embroyonic versions of sexboy tunes,lots and tons of samples that will weird you out,this is still a valid expression of future musics,even tho' it's from the 90's,no one has done anything like this or the second great release(salem curbing 2-"the beat clam goes to the meatball social,or,we are science tits!")yet,and i don't know that anyone will ever catch up with this sound,it's so far in the future.lots of little songs interspersed through-out the proceedings,so don't lose patience,just like the 2nd one,lots of treasures await,and you never can tell what's coming next.bears many repeated listenings.good for backround or crankin',great for parties,a real conversation piece.2 side long tracks,as to keep the continuity flowing.this just may cure your ailments,click here and call me in the morning: https://sluggishatapes.bandcamp.com/album/salem-curbing

ONE FELL SWOOP-live at the draft house 1/31/92-first live show ever!

me,joel and chipmunk,in our little alt-rock trio,me and chip on guitars,jorl on drums,except when he sings,me on drums,we all sing,mostly me.i wrote the lyrics and we cover,flamin'groovies,the fall,syd barrett,hendrix,stooges,sonic youth,led zeppelin,and black flag.kinda electric eels style,no bass,just guitars.we sound much different live,with a real drum kit,instead of our usual kit(see other one fell swoop post for details)and the flyer on the other post is for this show ,the flyer on this post is for a show a week later,black nerd opened for us(i'll post that later),and we had a big crowd of locals who were rather pissed at my intro to"red letter day"when i razz nirvana for their sell out video(smells like...)on mtv at the time,lots of folks walked out after i make my comments,oh well,they missed the rest of a hell of a good show!we aquired a residence as the house band at the draft house for some time after this.i was the one who got them to let us play and start a scene in our crappy little town.kinda busted open the floodgates for a million embryo alt rock bands and punks to play and hang out,before that downtown was just drunken bums hangin at the bar.lots more live and studio tapes to come.the first track is an improv,which we usually used to apply to a regular set list,we'd always do a few improv jams.a fine document of a fantastic band,stay tuned for more,for now click here:http://www.mediafire.com/file/jynzwdmawng/ONE FELL SWOOP-first show live 1-31-92-the draft house.zip

this band,me,joel,tony,and vance,is kinda related to,heeb,yid,and kike in sound and members.ist track is a tribute to cat machine,and the third track was pilfered by kike for their full length(probably a different mix).don't miss the 4th track,it goes by as quick as the shake of a lamb's tail!the 6th track features special guest guitar from billy.tony sings one,vance sings one ,i sing 3 ,and 2 instros.all in all an enjoyable listen.try to fit this into one of your "genres",you jaded bastards!click here:

BUGHEAD-vol 3

hey,it's brophy on drums again,nathan adams on guitar and lead vocals,and jason powell ,bass and vocals.they had an orlando connection.kinda funky like hendix meets lenny kravitz(oh yeah,they're the same person,right?),with one track revisiting their ska roots.yes,i think they started as a ska band,and as that market overflowed into the sewer,they swtched up to this funky sound.reminds me of early 70's funk rock bands.the last track is almost reminiscent of a ween cut-out with it's falsetto vocals.pretty professional sound as well,far beyond sluggisha standards.i don't know what became of vols. 1,2 or anything after 3,i've never heard 'em.click here :http://www.mediafire.com/file/mcwiwigzzmo/bughead.zip

STONEHENGE MOUTH--strictly the phedinkus

about 2:30-3:30 a.m.,october 10th 1991,at my house,this was recorded.one of our famous one-off bands,me,tony,joel,and chipmunk.great mood created by the late hour,straight to boombox.some tracks have the one fell swoop drum kit(see the one fell swoop post for more info on that matter),and there's one instro,and each of us sing one,for a total of 5 tunes.the standout fave for me is the 3rd track,"off my hooves",which tony wrote the words to,i play bass,one of my finest bass lines ever,and it's my pick of the various versions of this song(boneshaker does a faster version,totally different music,tony,ron,vance,but that's for a future post)one of my top 20 greatest sluggisha songs,ever!!in closing let me say,this is a fine jamming band,check the line-up,one of many bands with the same members,yet with a sound all it's own,but it's awfully hard to scrub the cat machine off!.click here buddy:  https://archive.org/download/StonehengeMouth--strictlyThePhedinkus/122StonehengeMouth.zip
