ONE FELL SWOOP - Hector Koriyama

The greatest unknown, underground ,diy ,indie-punk ,alt-rock ,experimental band ever! Don't know where the album title came from ,but there is a short piece ,"Namesake" ,which toys with the album title. There is a positively insane cover of the Beatles ,"Revolution #9" with a brief interpolation of Led Zeppelin's "D'yer Maker" ,which will drive you mad! "Slum Sermon" ,is exactly that ,a preaching on the horrors of poverty. There are more songs ,too ,that only OFS could have written! Special guest (a throwback to the Cat Machine days!) was Sean Sommers, who sings on some numbers ,and may even have played some instruments!Good shit as usual from the power-core trio ,from Ft. Myers ,Florida.

LA GRANDE STORIA DEL ROCK - BIRTH OF THE BEATLES

The first side of this tape was recorded in 1961 in Hamburg with Pete Best ,Tony Sheridan, and The Beat Brothers. There is one Harrison/Lennon composition ,the rest are covers of then popular American rock n roll songs. Side B is live in Hamburg in 1962 ,has lots of speed-riddled chatter between songs, and covers more American rock tunes. Some of the vocals remind me of Elvis.

SLUGGISHA'S THRIFT STORE - Volume # 9

Another rousing edition of the Thriftin' series, Culled from my massive collection of discarded vinyl gems, tossed haplessly into thrift store record racks ,across Florida. More of the same, some of the highlights ,for me ,are : Jimmy & Kristy McNichols bro/sis gang-up on "Go For It" , Kim Jung Ho's Korean guitar classic ,"Track 10" (real title in Korean!) , music box recordings, Beatles covers, comedy ,voodoo music, stereo test records, hawaiian classics, children's records ,the atom bomb being detonated ,and more than I have the time to go into! Check it out! And since today is the anniversary of Hawaii becoming our 50th state (8/21/1959) there is a compilation of 70 (!!?!!) versions of the tropical chestnut "Hawaiian War Chant" ,posted over at my other site , Media Christ , ( http://archive.org/download/HawaiianWarChants-PresentedBySluggishasThriftStoreSeries/HawaiianWarChants.zip  )

THE DICK PANTHERS - Norwegian Wood

This ends with a skit ,that sounds like the characters from the other disc below ,some fucked up fellas. The music and vocals here ,are great as on all their stuff ,and weird and stupid. I think you will enjoy the full Dick Panthers catalog ,I recommend it very highly! In the highest!I bet these guys are pro musicians, havin' some beers, and doodlin' around! Like the Beatles of our generation ,or something! And the art and notes in all the zips of these guys,is fab!

CATERWAUL OF SOUND - Stabby Road

A new band with their debut, sent to me by the bassist,Rico Vanian. And the Damned comparisons don't end there! I think these fellas sound like old school UK punk, specifically The Damned. They cover : Hole,The Ronettes, and also do an update on "Old Mac Donald" ,and "Movin' On Up",a/k/a  " Theme From The Jeffersons", just to point out that they have a sense of humor as well. And that is easily discovered by looking at the Beatles album cover parody!Good luck guys, hope to hear more from you soon!

the genius of DAVE ROTH

Dave was a Ft.Myers,Florida musician, who moved on to Georgia and abroad, doing studio time with Sean "Puffy"Coombs(before he was anyone),Jad Fair, and lots of others. He was also in many bands such as the Go-Devils,Insane Jane, even a guest spot with Cat Machine. He invented the "Queerbait",a stringed electric noisemakin'lap steel contraption. This is a selection of early solo material, styles vary, experimental, cover of the Beatles,"Good Day Sunshine",I swear I have him doing"Theme Song from The Jefferson's",somewhere,(I may be dreaming),songs that sound like out-takes of Residents and Negativland, this is very cool nonetheless,a musicians musician, thinking music for those who can't think, this will distract your way of life!

VANCE BURDGE-early solos

Vance is one of my best buds.We were in tons of projects together, but I'm not on this at all.But Nathan Adams,Eric'Trig'Triglet, and Nick Dunphee,do help out a little.About 50/50 on originals vs. covers. Some of the covers are from David Bowie,Love and Rockets,Christian Death,Black Sabbath, the Beatles,Bauhaus, the Go-Go's,and Vanilla Ice.You can kinda tell why we called him 'The Count',due to his affinity for goth. The Go-Go's ,Vanilla Ice,and Bauhaus numbers are parodies about local luminaries such as Shawn,Splashman, and Guy Gentry. There's also a hilarious imitation of Nick Dunphee on, 'Nick the What?'He leads off with the only country song I think he ever recorded, and goes into his goth styled tunes, some real trippin'stuff, and all those ace covers.Check his name on this blog ,He's probably in half the bands featured here!A fantastic all around friend, musician, singer, and the best engineer /soundman we had.A very accomplished artist. Hey buddy ,drop me a line and leave comments please!
