AUGUST SPIES - LP

In their only LP ,Massachussetts August Spies ,re-records a lot of earlier numbers and lays down some new anarchist punk songs.With covers of GG Allin and The Avengers, and Ashey on vox and guitar,this band is a punk force to be reckoned with.Veterans of the punk scene,they have opened for more big-name punk bands than you can count on your fingers(and toes!)Some of their finest moments are caught on this release,tho' some of these did have more punk furor on the original demo tapes.Ashey's mom was the cover model,and was apparently the coolest punk mom on the scene!This is the sound of anarchy! If you claim to be a true punk ,and you have not yet heard August Spies,I don't know how you can make that claim! Ashey is punk's "everyman" ,and his lyrics defend that notion. Ashey's singin' on this one ,in his highly identifiable style,while Jenny ,his girl ,is on drums, playing songs which lyrically focus on high school memories ,such as :"Peer Pressure" ,"Oxyclean" ,"Pride In Your School","Baby In The Toilet At The Prom" ,and more related subjects. THE NOSEJOBS

 Another Chris "Ashey" MacDonald related band ,with he on bass again,and this time with his fiance Jenny on vocals ,and Jeremy (now with the 4 Sids !) on drums ,plus girl guitarist ,Crystal.Once again ,as is most of Ashey's output ,UK punk influenced! THE 4 SIDS -demos

The 4 SIDS ,bring the old school punk sound from Massachussetts ,with a tinge of UK snarling,also evident in their cover song choice of "Kill" ,by erstwhile  1977 UK punk jesters , Albertos Y Los Trios Paranoias ,which leads off this 6 song demo cd,( on the Peel Sessions ,for Albertos Y Los Trios Paranoias, there is a track named ,"Sid's Song" recorded just 3 months before the release of their first single ,which may be a good choice for the 4 SIDS to cover on the next one! Maybe re-name it ,"4 Sids Song" !! that would be cool!) The rest of this demo is just as punk and cool,retaining that same UK sound throughout! FRED HOTH & BIG BED - Fish Rocks

A fine example of suburban home made punk rock ,of the 1,2,3,4 GO!!! style,which sounds as if they've been playing these songs for years,in other words ,Fucking Great!! ! This is Doug Boone ,Mike Smith ,and Brian Reed ,and someone plays bass on some of this too! These guys were also in the bands ,"Kindergarden Terror" , and "Pigtales" ,which is posted somewhere else on this blog! If you love kids playing slam-dancin',funny as hell ,punk rockin' songs ,then this is for you ( I know you would totally be into this ,Ashey!!) . A cover of Sonny & Cher's ,"I Got You, Babe" ,from this recording ,was featured on last year's massive 100 band compilation , "Popeil Punk / K-Tel Kore" ,also to be found elsewhere on this here blog! Plus they cover Devo's ,"Whip It" ,with funny results.And how can you not download this , with songs like ,"I'm Going To Move Into An Apartment With Ted Nugent's Mom" , "Phil Donahue Smokes Crack" , "If We Can Walk Together ,Why Can't We Mosh Together?" , "The Day They Kicked Lizzie Borden Out Of R.E.M." ,and other hilarious titles. And the album title ,does it have anything to do with John "Fish" ,from Record Bar?(later Tracks). And the lyrics are even funnier ,some border on GG Allin's foul mouthed librettos! Doug gave me this tape years ago, and I highly recommend it! I'm hoping one of the guys from this band will contact me,and maybe shed more light on this great lost Ft. Myers band!!

CAT MACHINE - Dude! ,That's Penis! a/k/a Live At Gramps's -May 1991

A short rehearsal of 4 tunes,(each member sings one) , opening for Myopia ,on this tape,(Myopia's set is here: http://sluggisha.blogspot.com/2008/11/m-y-o-p-i.html ),as well as live.One of the few tapes with a real drum set,as we usually resorted to drum machines,and other more primitive percussion. I don't know if I ever went into the meaning of the title, so,here goes: Ashey moved between Massachussetts and Florida a few times.Once ,upon his return,he was using the phrase ,"Dude! ,that's penis!" ,which he said meant ,"cool" ,up in MA. We just rolled about,and laughed,and used it for a tape title,which was the usual progression of a catchphrase,at least in Cat Machine's world.

CAT MACHINE -Vanilla Cave

Despite the cover art,there are no Nick Cave,or Birthday Party covers ,on this tape.There is an obligatory Fall number,and the special guest was Chris "Ashey"MacDonald.It was Ashey's debut as a singer,years before he sang for August Spies.I believe he also did some instrumentation.A really good,loud,punk rock,fun time, is in this download,their 27th full length!I can't say enough about Ashey,he's one of my favorite people in this world of shit and more shit!The world's greatest underground,outsider,cult-band,to ever change their pants!Ed,Joel,Tony,and Chipmonk,powered this one out on 2/19/1991, 20 years ago today!Time fucking flies!

usually if you do a search for CHICKENHEAD on the web you get some kinda crappy rap song,but not anymore,now that we have this post,a tribute of a bygone era,went too fast.this is the kind of 7 " that would make ashey slamdance thru the house.

this is punk rock to the max.on a black flag damaged era tip,these guys gots the sound down.i wrote to emil at 4 and a half fingers records a lot in the day,and almost lined up a few gigs for SEXBOY to open for the CRUMBS,but alas it fell thru.wish CHICKENHEAD lasted longer,but they eventually formed into the CRUMBS.which i will post some of soon,mostly the early singles,stuff from a couple of comps,and the 10".but this is pre-CRUMBS,and let me tell you it rules.don't even second guess this ,just download it.lots of bonuses in the zip file such as,pics of inserts,t-shirts-and stickers.get this now!!G O D.p.s. these guys are from miami,fl.

THE MOSHHAWKS

the MOSHHAWKS were a crossover band before crossover existed.back in high school i was the only punk and i hung out with metalheads and stoners.my idea was always to combine punk and metal to please both crowds.then metallica,megadeth,slayer an others arrived on the scene to use my idea.the guitar style i was going for was a greg ginn/ace frehley sound.you can hear that in here as well as influences like d.r.i.,black flag,black sabbath,minor threat,misfits,g.g.,etc.not in chronological order,the recording and sound quality varies.it's kinda like:skate punk metal thrash mosh horror rock.lots of topics are covered,fat chicks,beer,bongs,outer space,vampires,death,satan,suicide,pigs(cops),zombies,skating ,surfing,self-abuse,h/c lifestyle etc.i had a mohawk and anthrax just started mosh music  i combined the two for an original hair and band name.there are some straight out hard core and punk songs as well as metal tunes and an amalgamation of the 2 genres.don't be put off by anything here,just listen and i'll take you back to the mid to late 80's and you'll like it.mostly me on all instr.and vox.full band had skullz on bass and snax on drums.still have more of this exciting band to post and i will.this is something people have been searching for and requesting so i thought i'd oblige and post it.also a special shout out to my biggest fan,christian "ashey"macdonald. enjoy!
