ONE FELL SWOOP - First Gig Practice Tape

This is a re-post of the practice for the first One Fell Swoop gig!(originally posted May 7,2010).
Recorded live, 1/23/1992,(20 years ago ,today!), at Gramps, the Cat Machine house, and the typewriter case, pizza pan drum rim, hammer and pliers drumset is in full-effect.The first half is originals, the second half we cover: the Flamin' Groovies(twice), the Fall, Hendrix(2 hits), and Kiss. The between song banter is good for a few guffaws, and we were still re-learning these songs, picked from several sessions. Good for what it is. The song," I Need Cash",swipes a Kike riff! The first gig led to a residency as the "house" band of the Draft House, (for a few months), we actually cracked downtown wide open ,bringing in opening acts ,and making a place for kids to hang out ,and see and hear local and out-of-area bands. Before that ,there wasn't really any venues for punk/alternative bands to play. Art by Eric J. This has been posted for nearly 2 years ,and only 10 downloads? Well ,now that I've fit it into the sequence of tapes ,posted in order of their recording dates ,maybe more of you will get to hear this!

CAT MACHINE - Fag Bar -Rehearsals For Visions Gig -May 1991

A full rehearsal of the entire set list ,give or take a coupla numbers. All 4 boys,Ed,Joel,Tony, and Chipmonk ,are in prime form,on this practice session.Only one gig at Visions, and we were done with that establishment,as the owners said we were too loud.As the title reveals,we played at a gay bar,on their grand opening ,in fact.No live tapes from gigs have ever surfaced,so this is as live as it gets, along with the other rehearsal tapes.Of course Cat Machine opened for the great Myopia, who was Tony,Billy and Shane.Myopia played a small string of dates,at Visions.

CAT MACHINE - Cat Haus (Rehearsal For SW Florida Juvenile Detention Center -5/4/1991

Joel & Tony's dad is a preacher. He got us our first gig ever,at the juvenile detention center in east Ft Myers,Florida(pictured above!). We played for a room full of around 25 or so,a couple of kids loved us,but the most of the racially diverse youth there, despised us.We were loud ,obnoxious, annoying, yeah, you get it,we were being ourselves,Cat Machine! This is a practice session for that gig.Only a handful of songs here,we did a full set at the center. It was a blast!Too bad we have no audio or video of the show, now that would be priceless!Bonus track at end is filled with riffs, and chatter amongst the band and others!

BUZZ WORKSHOP

This is it ! The amazingly good sounding recording made at Joel's in Crime Manor. 5455 was the place to be on this particular evening. The rehearsal for the debut and sadly last ever gig .Me on vocals and lyrics plus keys,Vance Burdge on bass,Joel Rizzo on guitar ,and Mike Smith on drums.Aunt Christy was there in attendance.  The show the next night was a rousing success. We were the oldest people in the place and we played this exact set and it ruled!!I have a video of the show I may put up eventually.Lotsa kids pogoin' and havin' a good time. How many straight-edge guys does it take to screw in a lightbulb?None they don't screw.A joke from said gig.Hey comment on or review this shit cmon I'm'lookin for a response from someone out there.Requests? Please gimme somethin.see ya soon,GOD
