Starting his musical career as part of a duo (with Chuck Woolery!) as "The Avant-Garde" with the singles "Yellow Beads" (re-done on this LP) ,and "Naturally Stoned" (a top-40 hit!) in 1967. Elkin "Bubba" Fowler, also played guitar for Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen ,both of whom he resembles ,musically ,lyrically ,and vocally on this 1970 album. "The Pounding Status Quo" ,is a Dylan rip ,and one of the best tracks here. Other standouts include ,"Listen Big City" ,"Next Year This Time" , and "The Messenger Of Life". The re-make of his former group's ,"Yellow Beads" ,is a hippy story ,and much of the material is either dated or has much to do with what's happening in the world right now! I remember snatching this up while thrifting ,and taking it over to Joel's house for a spin on his turntable. We just fell about in laughter ,looking at Bubba's front cover pic ,and hearing him totally aping Dylan's whole schtick!
